The three major guitar roles are the Rhythm Guitar, Lead Guitar, and Bass Guitar. These three major roles would probably be the basic positions on a basic 4 member band – including the drummer.

The Rhythm Guitarist
One of the three major guitar roles is the rhythm guitar. The role of the rhythm guitar plays the general rhythmic pattern on a certain piece of song – usually strumming chords using different strumming techniques from basic to complex chord patterns.

The Rhythm Guitarist

The rhythm guitarist usually dwells on strumming to set the rhythm of the music. Either in solo or in group, a rhythm guitar player provides general type of sound that can be used as an accompaniment. This guitar role can already serve as a complete accompaniment for a whole piece. It is usually referred to as acoustic. The Lead Guitarist
The lead guitars present a very intimidating but remarkable role in a musical performance. The sound of the lead guitars can amplify the energy of the whole musical performance. It is sometimes the climax of the whole of the show. This guitar role creates a very high stimulus to its audience, the group of performers, including the guitar player itself.
A lead guitarist uses different types of scaling techniques and other effects there maybe available to gain more confidence on the stage. Sometimes in a battle, if a band has a good lead guitarist, it can decrease the confidence of the opposing band. These could be the hardest role in the three major guitar roles because most people look up to the lead guitars than the other two major roles.
The Bassist
This role of the bass guitar is very much heart-pumping. It’s the one that gives the ground a beating sound. It boosts the other instrumentalists’ confidence and stage performance because of its ground-breaking, deep sound which can also set the beat of a certain song or piece.
It can actually make a connection to the heart beat of the audience. If you notice that when you remove the bass guitar on a certain performance it would rather sound soft or bright or sometimes distorting to the ear if mishandled by the musician. Even the piano has a bass. The basic guitar also has a bass. The drums have a bass drum. This proves how important this role is to the three major guitar roles.
